Are you looking for a new climbing gym to challenge yourself and improve your skills? Look no further! In this blog post, we will be discussing the top climbing gyms in the local area. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced climber, these gyms offer a variety of routes and amenities to suit your needs. Peak of Fremont (AKA The Peak)

Time: 9 minutes from MSJ

Student Day Pass Price: $20

Features: Boulders, Ropes, and Autobelays

The Peak of Fremont is the only climbing gym in the Tri-City area. It has provided endless support to our club, and we highly recommend checking it out. Being one of the few gyms with auto belays, you don’t need a belayer to scale the high walls. The routes are updated every 2–3 weeks, and the staff is always very welcoming. Make sure to check out the Clubhouse for a tasty meal after your climb!

Movement Santa Clara

Time: 25 minutes from MSJ

Student Day Pass Price: $28

Features: Boulders only

Movement Santa Clara is one of the newer gyms in the Bay Area. With a Kilter Board and a Tension Board, this gym always features cool competition-style moves and fancy holds. Aside from the state-of-the-art climbing walls, the gym also has a workout area with a treadmill, StairMaster, elliptical, and multiple weight racks. This gym is super crowded on weekend afternoons, so we recommend going in the morning.

Movement Sunnyvale

Time: 27 minutes from MSJ

Student Day Pass Price: $28

Features: Boulders and Ropes

With over 280 routes, Movement Sunnyvale has some of the tallest lead walls in the Bay Area. This gym has an extensive workout area and a sauna in both the women’s and men’s bathrooms. The top routes always provide a great challenge and include one of the coolest overhangs we’ve ever seen.

Pacific Pipe (AKA Pac Pipe)

Time: 45 minutes from MSJ

Day Pass Price: $30

Features: Boulders, Ropes, and Speed Wall

Pacific Pipe is one of the 17 Touchstone climbing gyms across California. Pac Pipe isn’t just one of the biggest gyms in the nation but also an active supporter of the climbing community. They recently hosted the USA Paraclimbing Nationals, with athletes from all over the country traveling to compete. This gym has the only speed wall in the Bay Area, which is super fun to try (it’ll make you appreciate Olympic speed climbing way more!). Be wary that this gym is located in an old warehouse and has no heating, so be sure to wear lots of layers.

Mosaic Boulders

Time: 46 minutes from MSJ or 1.5 hour bart ride

First-Time Pricing: $10

Features: Boulders only

While this gym is quite far from Fremont, it’s worth the trip. Only 4 minutes away from the UC Berkeley campus, this climbing gym is small but mighty. It’s located near a BART station and surrounded by tons of thrift stores and restaurants, making it a great destination. This climbing gym has super nice wooden walls and even more convenient hours, closing at 11 PM every day.
